At Matthews we are committed to ensuring we have environmental best practices in place and work to a range of accreditation’s which can be viewed on our accreditation’s page.

Key Benefits of Printing with Care

  • Contributes to your CSR and environmental policies
  • Provides a method of demonstrating how you are protecting the environment, which will contribute to ISO14001 accreditation and potentially assist you during a procurement process.
  • Ensures you are using environmentally friendly materials
  • Uses Eco-friendly printing techniques while maintaining high quality print materials
  • Reduces the environmental impact of your marketing communications and enhances your brand’s reputation
  • Communicate your environmental achievements to customers, shareholders and staff

Having an effective corporate social responsibility or environmental policy is an essential part of many companies day to day business operations, and is about understanding your business’ impact on the wider world. It means taking a responsible attitude, going beyond the minimum legal requirements and following straightforward principles that apply whatever the size of your business.

Printing can be seen as being a hindrance to your environmental or CSR policies and is usually one of the first aspects to be cut down on, but it can actually help and benefit your policies. Below explains how and why.

Materials

Paper is one of the most sustainable products we use, where the main constituent is trees, a naturally regenerating and renewable raw material, and the paper industry has eight representatives in the UN’s list of 100 most sustainable companies (SOURCE:Promotion of Paper, Australian Paper Industry Association, 2008).

Today a wide choice of papers with high environmental credentials exist. From recycled papers, which are made from recovered waste fibre, to Chain of Custody Certified products (FSC or PEFC) ensuring that fibre comes only from legal and sustainable sources.

More recently, with world attention on climate change and the impacts of carbon emissions, organisations can now also choose Carbon Balanced Paper.

Carbon Balanced Paper is a simple way for organisations to reduce the carbon impacts of their marketing communications and effect on climate change. Carbon is balanced by the ecological charity, the World Land Trust, through preservation of endangered areas of tropical rain forest.

Your choice of paper with the right environmental credentials supports your CSR and Environmental policies and enhances your brand.

Matthews Processes

Following on from paper, print also has good environmental aspects, including but not limited to: –

  • Alcohol-free presses
  • Vegetable inks
  • Waterless printing
  • Use of recycled paper stocks
  • Use of FSC accredited paper stocks
  • ISO14001:2004 Environmental Standard, which ensures that your print firm continues to be environmentally friendly
  • Carbon Balancing Paper
  • Recycling of all packaging, board, paper, plastics, glass and aluminum
  • In-line ink pumping systems installed to reduce ink container wastage (All recycled stocks are collected and disposed of legally and by accredited firms.

All of the above, plus much more, can contribute and enhance your policies. They are traceable, recordable and in some instances such as Carbon Balanced Paper, certificates can be produced in order for any company to demonstrate to the board, clients or shareholders how you have reduced your environmental impact via the use of print.

Matthews have strict environmental policies in place and are practising the processes mentioned above.
