Chairman receives Special Recognition for Lifetime Achievement
Matthews Chairman, Dennis Ott, was presented with a Special Recognition for the Lifetime Achievement award at Family Business Place’s Red Ribbon Awards on 10th July 2015. The event was held at the Prestigious Shakespeare’s Globe with over 300 attendees all from family businesses across the UK.
Dennis started Matthews with his then business partner, Brian Wetherell, in 1983, with the company name being registered in April 1984. The business was initially a small finishing firm with a printing arm, but Dennis and Brian took the business to a multi-million pound operation becoming a printing firm with finishing capabilities. In 2006 Brian retired and Dennis became sole owner, and Dennis’ daughter Gemma joined the business as Marketing and Business Development Manager with Christopher Riddell being promoted to Managing Director and Ernie Stoker promoted to Sales Director.
Dennis received the special recognition for his contribution to the printing industry, seeing the business through 2 recessions with minimal redundancies and for remaining a sound and viable business. “It was a real surprise to receive such a prestigious award and to be recognised for building a successful business, especially when there are so many other excellent family businesses. I have a fantastic team around me who have made it possible for me to be able to build a stable and successful company. The support of my wife Elaine and the rest of my family has enabled me to do this and I thank them for all their on-going support.” Dennis Ott, Chairman, Matthews the Printers.
